Laura Zúñiga competed in national pageant Nuestra Belleza Mexico held on September 20, 2008 where she place as the suplente and was automatically selected to represent the country in the Miss International 2009 pageant. On October 30, 2008 she participated in Reina Hispanoamericana representing Mexico in Santa Cruz, Bolivia bringing the title to Mexico for the first time.

Because  scandal on December 22, 2008 all her titles are dethroned
